Farmers must contest Assembly elections: Gurnam Singh Charuni

Muktsar, August 23

Haryana farm union leader Gurnam Singh Charuni today reiterated that farmers must contest the upcoming Assembly elections and bring in change.

“I am just motivating Punjab’s farmers. If they form the government, the country will follow them in 2024 as everyone is wishing for a change. There is no other alternative,” said the BKU (Charuni) chief here.

Charuni, however, said he would not contest the elections. Many organisations supporting the farmers’ agitation would be in the fray, but some were neutral, he said.

Speaking on the MSP, he said: “Just six per cent crops get the MSP. The Centre is mum on other crops. It has actually brought in the legislation for corporate houses and branded these as farm laws. Agriculture is a state subject and the Centre should leave it to states.” — TNS
