Abohar, February 21

A farmer, who has been sitting at a dharna staged by BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) for the past five days near BJP state chief Sunil Jakhar’s ancestral house in Panjkosi village, celebrated his son’s birthday at the protest site.

Gurniwaj Singh, son of Balwinder Singh Baath, a farmer of Kikkar Khera village, was escorted by a relative to Panjkosi village where his father was on an indefinite sit-in (pucca morcha) and nobody else was present at home. A cake was arranged which was cut by Gurniwaj amidst a thunderous applause by the farmers who echoed “happy birthday to you” giving a brief break to sloganeering against the Central and Haryana Governments.

A protesting farmer said the minor boy would have celebrated his birthday had the BJP-led Central Government in New Delhi accepted their demands. The Central Government is not backing down from its original approach and the government led by the same party in Haryana was hell bent on committing atrocities on the peaceful farmers who wanted to proceed to Delhi to air their genuine demands on MSP, he added. Farmers said that if the Central Government does not accept their demands, BJP will not be able to win a single seat in Punjab in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
