Ferozepur, June 10

Four members of a family belonging to Lohke Kalan village in Makhu block allegedly tried to end their lives by jumping into a canal near Bharana village on the Ferozepur-Zira road this afternoon.

As per information, Beant Singh (33) along with his wife Veerjit Kaur and their two minor children — a six-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl — had gone to Sur Singh Wala village gurdwara on a bike in the morning.

On their way back, they reportedly jumped into the Rajasthan feeder. While Veerjit and her daughter were saved by passersby, her hus-band and son were reported missing.

The couple, both qualified teachers, run a private primary school at Shahwala village. Beant goes by moniker “Master ji” in the village.

His brother Sukhwant Singh is a farm union leader from Lohke Kalan village. Sources said the brothers had 13 acres of agricultural land.

As soon as the incident was reported, local divers launched a search for the father and son.
