Rupnagar, February 12

28 convicts benefit

The Member Secretary of PULSA, Manjinder Singh distributed eyeglasses to 28 convicts as the DLSA Rupnagar had organised an eye checkup camp for inmates at the jail last month. Glasses were prepared in collaboration with the NGO ACCP COPS and distributed to the inmates.

Manjinder addressed the grievances of the inmates at the jail and made them aware of child-friendly laws.

He stated that the visit was organised following the directions of the Executive Chairman of PULSA, Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia. He said his motive was to review the Pan-India campaign and to ensure that no inmate under the age of 18 remains confined in the adult jail, adding that if any person is found under the age of 18, his application has to be filed before the Juvenile Justice Board or Courts concerned.

He said that the campaign aims at identifying potential minors confined in adult jails and their corresponding shift to observation homes if they are found to be minors on the date of the commission of the offence.

Manjinder advised lawyers who visit jails to file applications if an inmate claims to be a juvenile. During his visit, he also inspected the jail hospital, kitchen, and legal aid clinic, where he addressed inmates’ grievances.
