Chandigarh, April 11

With former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi being asked by Punjab Vigilance Bureau to appear before it on April 20, state Congress on Tuesday accused the ruling AAP government of triggering its leaders ahead of Jalandhar parliamentary byelection.

Channi, who was issued notice to appear before vigilance on April 12, has been now asked to appear on April 20, on the former CM’s request.

Coming out in support of Channi, PPCC chief Amarinder Raja Warring said staring at “imminent defeat” in the bypoll, the AAP was resorting to witch-hunt.

Besides Channi former ministers Brahm Mohindra, Vijay Inder Singla have also been issued notices by vigilance.

Referring to vile attempts to implicate former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, the Congress leader said the present government is anti-Dalit and is acting on a design to target and harass Dalit leaders. Be it Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, and now Charanjit Singh Channi, this regime has nothing to show against them and is just satisfying its ego by “punishing” Dalit population who did not vote for AAP, Warring said.

It is also an attempt to muzzle the voice of opposition, he added.

Both AAP and BJP are afraid of opposition who dare to expose their corrupt and nefarious propaganda to divide and destroy India, Warring said lashing out at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for denting Punjab's image irrevocably through his ineptness and incompetent attitude.

Rejecting any suggestion of AAP Jalandhar bypoll nominee Sushil Rinku making a dent in Congress votes, Warring said he would be surprised if Rinku manages to save his deposit. By joining AAP, he has committed harakiri, Warring added.
