Muktsar, August 1

An Army jawan and his parents allegedly killed the former’s 10-month-old daughter at their house in Ranjitgarh village here yesterday. The suspect reportedly doubted his wife’s character.

The suspect, Satnam Singh, who is posted in Ambala, however, managed to flee. The Sadar police have booked him, his father Sukhchain Singh and mother Swaran Kaur. Sukhchain has been arrested.

As per the First Information Report (FIR), Satnam married a woman of Ferozepur district about one and a half years ago. However, Satnam and his family reportedly doubted the woman’s character and deserted her.

Later, the woman lodged a complaint with the Army officers, who told the couple to live together and in the meantime, they had a daughter. Just about a fortnight ago, the Army officers again told the couple to be together for 20 more days.

Yesterday, the woman’s father reached Satnam’s house and they had a dispute. Following this, Satnam allegedly pushed his daughter and she hit the floor. Later, the infant succumbed to the injuries.

The police said the efforts were afoot to arrest other suspects.
