Chandigarh, August 10

Acting on the applications filed by the Deputy Director of Income Tax against Raninder Singh — CM Capt Amarinder Singh’s son — the Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed Ludhiana Chief Judicial Magistrate not to pass further orders on the complaint remanded to him.

“This court is of the opinion that the CJM should not pass any further orders on the complaint, which has been remanded to him,” the Bench ruled on the applications for interim directions. It was submitted that the trial court was likely to pass a fresh order, keeping in view the observations made by a revisional court on November 27, 2018, which was the subject matter of challenge before the HC.

The applicant-petitioners added it would cause grave prejudice since the respondents had not put in appearance. They were not served but were aware of the proceedings before the court, which was clear from an order passed by the Ludhiana CJM. The matter revolves around the admissibility of the digital information. — TNS
