Daily Covid count may hit 4K by mid-April in Punjab

The second spike of Covid-19 is likely to be worse than the first surge in September last year.

According to state Health Department experts, the second spike is likely hit the peak by middle of April. Dr Rajesh Bhaskar, state’s nodal officer for Covid, said they were expecting that in the next two weeks, the number of daily cases was likely to touch 4,000.

3,187 cases in 24 hrs

Chandigarh: The state reported 3,187 cases and 60 deaths in the past 24 hours. Among the districts, Amritsar reported maximum 11 deaths. Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar reported nine deaths each.

“It is likely to be worse than September, when the daily average cases were around 2,000,” he said.

The state Health Department’s earlier estimate was that the average number of daily cases might peak to 3,000. Last month, the daily average of cases remained around 1,840.

The state reported 3,187 cases and 60 deaths in the past 24 hours. In the district-wise break-up of deaths, Amritsar topped the chart with 11; followed by Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar with nine each; Ludhiana eight; SAS Nagar and SBS Nagar four each; Gurdaspur three; Patiala, Sangrur, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur two each; Kapurthala, Barnala, Bathinda and Pathankot one each. Yesterday, the state had reported 2,452 cases and 56 deaths.
