Cut taxes on fuel, Punjab Beopar Mandal urges govt

Show comments

Bathinda, October 13

Traders under the banner of the Punjab Beopar Mandal have urged the Centre and state government to coordinate and reduce taxes on petrol and diesel prices.

Mandal senior vice-president Amarjit Mehta said apart from vehicle owners, the high fuel prices had impacted transportation, manufacturing and other sectors also. The hike in prices was directly impacting the prices of essential commodities and consumers were bearing the brunt.

Hitting out at the state government, Mehta said, “We expect least from the Centre to provide relief to Punjab traders, but we are highly disappointed with the state government as fuel prices are at an all-time high. The state government has not made any effort to provide relief to residents and traders by cutting down fuel taxes from the state’s share”. —TNS
