Court grants bail to Congress leader Dr Ashu Bangar

The District and Sessions Court of Moga today granted bail to Congress leader Dr Ashu Bangar, who was arrested by the Moga police on charges of fraud on July 8. He was presently in judicial custody.

He contested the Assembly elections on Congress ticket from Ferozepur (rural) constituency after rejecting Aam Aadmi Party ticket.

The Congress levelled allegations of political vendetta against the ruling AAP government by misusing power to target Congress leaders.

Just before the Assembly elections, Dr Ashu Bangar had levelled serious allegations of corruption against the AAP top brass by releasing an audio tape of his conversation with Dr Rakesh Arora, husband of Moga MLA Dr Amandeep Kaur Arora. According to him, Rakesh took Rs 30 lakh from him to arrange an AAP ticket for him.

Besides, Ashu also alleged that he gave Rs 5 lakh to another AAP leader of Moga for getting a good position in the party organisation. The audio tape of this conversation went viral on social media at the time of elections. However, Dr Rakesh Arora denied the allegations as baseless.

Soon after the arrest of Dr Bangar, SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana claimed, “Dr Ashu Bangar was arrested on the allegations of forging documents in connivance with immigration agents”.

An FIR under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468 and 120B of the IPC was registered at the Moga City-I police station against Ashu, his associate Hardeep Singh Brar, a resident of Muktsar, and an unidentified person.

The Congress leader claimed that the FIR was registered without any specific complaint and no inquiry was conducted before registering the case.
