Cop tries to smuggle phone into jail, booked

Ropar: A senior constable has been booked for allegedly trying to smuggle a cellphone and a tobacco packet into the district jail on Sunday. The accused has been identified as Malkit Singh from the Punjab Armed Police, Jalandhar. He is yet to be arrested. According to information, the jail deputy superintendent lodged a complaint stating that Malkit Singh was to join duty at the jail at 6 am on Sunday. However, during a search at the entrance, a cellphone and a packet of tobacco was recovered under his turban, he alleged. The senior constable has been booked under Section 52 A of the Prisons Act.TNS

Foreign study cell opens for youth

Chandigarh: The state government under its Punjab Ghar Ghar Rozgar and Karobar Mission (PGRKAM) has started a foreign study and placement cell for counselling the youth interested in foreign study and placement. State Employment Generation Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that the counselling would be provided free of cost. The registration links for foreign counselling are functional from February 21 till February 25. The interested candidates can register online or personally visit district bureau offices. The first round of counselling will be held from March 1 to March 31. TNS
