CM: Identify land for burial ground

In response to the Christian community’s demand for land to build graveyards, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today directed the Rural Development and Panchayats Department to immediately identify ‘shamlat’ (common land) for the community across the state.

Addressing a high-level delegation of the Christian Welfare Board, Punjab, led by its chairman Salamat Masih, the Chief Minister said the state government was duty bound to provide land to the Christian community so that the burial grounds could be established.

The CM promised to look into the community’s other demands, including allocation of funds for their overall welfare and facilities to the board for ensuring its efficient functioning. The board was represented by senior vice-chairman Bishop Emmanuel, vice-chairman Tarsem Sahota Raman Ramesh Masih, besides other members.
