Ropar, October 13

Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi gave a poor family a surprise when he knocked at their door in Nurpur Bedi here today.

Channi, accompanied by Speaker Rana KP Singh, arrived in Nurpur Bedi for Poonch martyr Sepoy Gajjan Singh’s cremation. As he got down from the chopper, he was informed that he would have to wait for some time as there was a huge gathering at the martyr’s home. The CM, however, moved towards a small house near the helipad. House owner Gogi Kumar, a small vendor, offered tea to the guest, who spent nearly half an hour there.

On Gogi’s request for a job to his daughter studying in Class XII, the CM promised to help and asked them to meet him after she completes her study. Channi also gave Rs 2,000 as ‘shagun’ to Gogi’s daughter before leaving. — TNS
