Centre, state to blame for rising fuel prices: AAP

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged protests across the state on Monday against the hike in fuel prices.

A statement issued from the party headquarters said protests were led by district in charges and a large number of leaders and volunteers participated in the demonstrations.

“Compared to northern states, petrol is Rs 4.1 more expensive in Punjab and diesel is Rs 3.1 more expensive. Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is sitting in his farmhouse and pays no attention to the problems of people,” the statement said.

The AAP said the increase in the prices of fuel would not only affect the common man but would also impact the already burdened farmers as it would increase their cost of production.

Meanwhile, protesting against the steep hike in fuel prices, AAP volunteers rode a horse cart to present a memorandum to the district administration at the mini-secretariat in Ropar. While they were denied entry with the cart in the administrative complex, Ropar tehsildar Kuldeep Singh came out to accept the memorandum.

They blamed the Centre for the situation saying it had failed in reining the increasing prices of fuel.
