Centre insensitive to people's plight: Punjab Congress

A large number of Congress workers today protested against price rise, imposition of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on essential items and unemployment in the country.

As the Congress workers tried to march towards Raj Bhawan to submit a memorandum to the Governor, the police used water cannons to disperse them and detained the protesters.

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring lashed out at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for being “insensitive” towards the sufferings of a common man.

The memorandum drew attention of the Governor towards the “inflation, which has impacted every individual”. Among those present included Congress Legislature Party leader Partap Singh Bajwa, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Om Parkash Soni, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria and Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa.

In Fatehgarh Sahib, former MLAs Kuljit Singh Nagra and Gurpreet Singh GP led the workers, who protested outside the DC office.

The duo said inflation has impacted everybody and voters should oust the Modi government at the Centre in 2024. They also warned the police and officials to stop targeting the Congress workers.

In Bathinda, Congress leaders and workers raised slogans against the Centre over price rise.

Arun Jeetmal of the Congress said, “Due to wrong policies of the Centre, inflation has spiked and people are finding it difficult to make both ends meet. During the UPA government, an LPG cylinder was sold for Rs 450, which now costs Rs 1,095. Prices of essential commodities have increased sharply in the last few years.”
