Covid cases up 100 times in 2 weeks in Punjab

Punjab has witnessed almost 100 times increase in daily Covid cases in just two weeks.

Going by Covid bulletins, the number of Covid cases remained static for almost five months between July and December. The state reported 46 cases on December 27. However, the cases increased to 167 on December 30 and after two days on January 2 they were 417. The number of cases reported on December 5 increased to 1,811. On January 8, the number of cases was 3,643. However, on Tuesday the state reported 4,593 cases and nine deaths. It is around 100 times increase in just two weeks.

In district-wise break-up, Gurdaspur and Patiala reported two deaths each, Ludhiana, Moga, SAS Nagar, Pathankot and Bathinda reported one death each.

As far as cases are concerned, Patiala topped the chart with 909 cases; followed by SAS Nagar 703; Ludhiana 678; Amritsar 455; Jalandhar 330 and Bathinda 233. Another concern for the state is high positivity rate, which has increased to 18.64 per cent.
