Canada gang war leaves 2 dead

Alleged gangster Meninder Dhaliwal and his friend Satinder Gill (not gangster) were shot dead in Vancouver on Sunday afternoon.

Belonged to ‘Brothers Keepers gang’

Twentyeight-year-old Meninder Dhaliwal belonged to the ‘Brothers Keepers gang’ run by immigrants of Punjab origin. They are involved in clash with the ‘United Nations gang’ and ‘Red Scorpions gang’. On July 14, Chirs Irwin of the ‘United Nations gang’was found murdered.

The Canadian police and media reports have termed the killing of Dhaliwal, who is of Punjab origin and one of the top six gangsters in Vancouver, a result of a bitter and bloody war between three rival gangs.

Dhaliwal belonged to the ‘Brothers Keepers gang’ run by immigrants of Punjab origin. They are involved in a turf war with the ‘United Nations gang’ and ‘Red Scorpions gang’. On July 14, Chris Irwin of the ‘United Nations gang’ was found murdered.

While Dhaliwal died on the spot after being hit in the head, his friend Gill passed away later in a hospital.

Dhaliwal (28) and his elder brother Barinder (38) figured in a poster of six gangsters, released by the Vancouver Police in October last year. These were Garinder DEO, Harjit DEO, Barinder Dhaliwal, Meninder Dhaliwal, Ekene Anigbo and Damion Ryan.

While releasing the poster, Chief Constable Adam Palmer had stated, “I want all Vancouver residents to know the faces of these individuals and to keep their distance from them. These persons are dangerous to society and to themselves. Our concern is that due to the gang rivalry, an innocent bystander can get hurt or killed.”

Dhaliwal’s second brother Harb was killed by rival gangsters in April 2021 outside Coal Harbour restaurant. Dhaliwal stabbed the shooter in the eye after chasing him down for some distance. The accused shooter Francois Gauthier was later sentenced to 20 years in prison with no parole.

As per reports, Dhaliwal was involved in drugs smuggling as well.

A disturbing video of Dhaliwal and Gill lying in a pool of blood went viral after the shooting. The police said a vehicle was also set on fire near at a distance from the crime spot and could be related to the assailants. Eye-witnesses said several rounds of shots being fired were heard. The police have arrested two suspects but they do not seem to be the shooters.

A media release by Sergeant Timothy Pierotti said, “We believe the double homicide to be a targeted incident.” The police have so far not confirmed the number of shooters.
