New Delhi, September 3

A survey by C Voter-ABP ahead of next year’s five state elections has predicted a hung Assembly in Punjab with the Congress government likely to lose, Aam Aadmi Party having the edge, the BJP headed for a rout and Shiromani Akali Dal expected to finish third.

The C Voter projections say AAP could win 51- 57 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly followed by the Congress with 38 -46 seats and the SAD 16-24 seats. The vote share projections in Punjab are 35.1 per cent for AAP, 28.8 per cent for the Congress and 21.8 per cent for the SAD.

The survey comes amid the feud between Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Punjab Pradesh Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu and attempts by the leadership to unite the warring factions.

The Congress had swept the poll in 2017, winning 77 seats. The SAD had won 15 seats, AAP 20, BJP three and others two. In 2022, the farmers' agitation is likely to impact the election results.

The C Voter survey predicted a BJP victory in the remaining four states that go to the polls in 2022 — UP, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa. In UP, it said the BJP could lose about 60 seats, but still retain power.
