Amritsar, September 4

The Border Security Force fired at a drone after hearing a buzzing sound in the area of Rajoke border out post in the wee hours of Saturday.

The area was cordoned off and a search operation was launched in the area in the morning that continued for hours, though it yielded nothing.

In a press release, BSF authorities said, “As per a coordinated drill, sister agencies were informed and a special search operation was carried out. Nothing suspicious was recovered from the area.”

The movement of drones has become a major challenge for the security agencies. Some elements in Pakistan along with ISI have been using drones to smuggle arms and ammunition besides contraband. The BSF and Punjab police were already on a high alert following the seizure of hand grenades and two tiffin bombs in the recent past.

A BSF spokesperson said the force had been on high alert all the times. It has been difficult to see the drones in the night and therefore jawans fired in the direction from where humming sounds of drones are coming.

It was Rajoke village two years ago where the Punjab police for the first time had busted a terror module that was using drones for supplying weapons and ammunition to their operatives. The police had arrested several persons in the module and recovered five AK-47 rifles, 16 magazines, four China-made pistols and huge quantity of ammunition.
