Jalandhar, February 12

While earlier only four farmer unions from the Doaba region were participating in the ‘Dilli Chalo’ protest, the fifth and a bigger union from Doaba, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Doaba), also announced its participation today.

President of BKU (Doaba) Manjit S Rai said, “We are also ready to set out for the Delhi protest this evening. I had gone to Fatehgarh Sahib in the day, where I met some farmer leaders. The union has a huge representation, especially in Phagwara, Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar.” Rai’s participation in the protest has given huge strength to it.

Prior to the support extended by Rai, the four unions from the region, which had been holding the protest included BKU (Ekta Sidhupur), Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Doaba Kisan Welfare Committee and Kisan Sangharsh Committee Kot Budha.

Earlier in the day, BKU (Doaba) farmers had organised a massive langar along the national highway in Phagwara for the farmers who had started from Amritsar and other parts of Majha this morning.

The farmers from these unions had left Jalandhar yesterday, but they were still in Ludhiana till this evening, moving collectively and slowly waiting for the outcome of the meeting of the farmers with the Centre in the evening today.
