Sangrur, January 24

On an appeal filed by Cabinet Minister Aman Arora in the court of the Sessions Judge, Sangrur, for a stay on his conviction in an assault case, the court adjourned the case for tomorrow after the completion of arguments this evening by counsel for Arora and Rajinder Deepa. Sessions Judge RS Rai will pronounce the order on Arora’s appeal tomorrow.

The arguments by counsel for both parties on the appeal started around 10.15 am and were completed at 7 pm. Arora and Rajinder Deepa remained present in the court.

On December 21, 2023, Arora and eight others, including his mother Parmeshwari Devi, were convicted and sentenced to two-year imprisonment by a Sunam court for assaulting Rajinder Deepa, brother-in-law of Arora, in 2008. In his complaint, Rajinder Deepa had claimed that Arora and nine others (one died during the trial) entered his house at Sunam forcibly and beat him up.

On January 19, the sessions judge had suspended Arora’s sentence till the final disposal of the appeal.
