Chandigarh, July 25

Taking cognisance of The Tribune report regarding role of the head of the anti-encroachment task force in Amritsar land scam, state Chief Secretary VK Janjua has sought a report from Additional Chief Secretary (Rural Development and Panchayats) Seema Jain.

On July 19, The Tribune story ‘Anti-encroachment task force chief’s name figures in panchayat land scam’ had reported that a government inquiry has exposed that the chief of the anti-encroachment task force had “gifted” a portion of prime panchayat land to a private developer in Amritsar by misleading the department. The matter pertains to Bhagtupura village in Amritsar district, where 42 kanal and 16 marla of prime panchayat land was given to Alpha International City Colony at throwaway prices.

According to sources, Janjua has sought the report from Jain on the issue. Jain did not take the call despite repeated attempts but her personal staff confirmed receiving the letter and said they have forwarded the same to the Director Rural Development and Panchayats.
