ASI 'shoots' Congress leader's son in Amritsar

Amritsar, December 12

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) allegedly shot a Congress leader’s son in the Ram Nagar Colony area under the Islamabad police station here late this evening.

The deceased, Kaku, was closing his grocery shop when the incident took place. ASI Rajesh Kumar, who lives in the neighbourhood, it at large.

Senior police officials reached the spot and started their investigation. ACP Sanjiv Kumar said a probe was underway and statements of the victim’s family were being recorded.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim had an altercation with the ASI a few days ago but locals brokered truce. Today, the ASI allegedly abused Kaku, leading to an argument, following which he allegedly opened fire. Kaku was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
