ASI dismissed, SHO shifted over ‘custodial torture’ in Punjab

SSP Harmanbir Singh Gill has dismissed ASI Amarjit Singh and transferred SHO Jaswant Singh to the police lines on the allegations of illegal detention and alleged torture of two youths in police custody, the video of which went viral on the social media.

After coming to know about the incident, senior lawyer HC Arora had sent a notice to Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan to take legal action against the erring cops. It was after his notice that DGP Dinkar Gupta asked the SSP to take action against the cops who were responsible for the ‘insensitive’ act. — TNS
