Amritsar, July 31

The local police have managed to get 10-day custody of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria in the murder case of rival Ranbir Singh, alias Rana Kandowalia, today.

In August last year, Rana Kandowalia was shot at a private hospital, where he had gone to meet a relative. Jaggu had allegedly taken the responsibility of the crime on his social media account.

DCP (Investigations) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said 10-day remand of Jaggu was procured by producing him in a local court today.

Earlier, the chances were bleak of getting Jaggu’s custody in the case as he got a stay from the HC. Jaggu had claimed that the incident occurred on August 3, 2021, while he was in the Tihar Jail. He expressed “extreme apprehension” to his life and feared that the probe agency could eliminate him in a fake encounter while there was no evidence to link him with the case. Police sources said since the stay orders were vacated recently, the police nabbed him to grill him. ACP Varinder Singh said Jaggu was brought here from Gurdaspur on transit remand. — TNS
