All 22 convicts of Nabha jailbreak case get 10 years' rigorous imprisonment

A local court on Thursday sentenced all 22 convicts of the 2016 Nabha jailbreak case to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment.

The 22 convicts include over a dozen gangsters.

Four alleged gangsters and two terrorists had escaped from the Nabha jail after gangsters dressed in police uniform had fired indiscriminately at the jail guards.

A challan in this case is still pending in court against one accused as the accused Sukhmeet Pal Singh was arrested by National Investigation Agency and the trial against him is pending in the court.

Total of seven challans were presented in the court and hearing in six of those challans are completed with today’s verdict.

Two of the accused died during the course of trial while two others were shot dead in a police encounter.

Following the high threat, all the convicted persons attended the hearing through video conferencing as they are lodged in various jails of the state.

The police had filed a chargesheet against 34 accused in the case.

Detailed orders in the case are expected in two days.
