Akali leader’s sons held in murder case

Fatehgarh Sahib, June 30

Both the sons of Swarn Singh Chanarthal, SAD district president, Fatehgarh Sahib, accused of murdering a Congress worker and injuring five others, surrendered in the court of CJM here today. However, their father, who had been nominated as co-accused under Section 120-B, is still at large. Both Balwinder Singh and Gurmukh Singh were sent to police remand till July 3.

Harpal Singh, SP (Investigation), said both sons of Swaran Singh, along with their supporters, were involved in a clash over the possession of panchayat land. They killed a Congress worker and injured the sarpanch and four of his supporters.

He said five accused had already been arrested and two surrendered today. Now, only one out of the eight people named in the FIR and co-accused Swarn Singh were at large. — OC
