AAP plans protest against tariff hike

Show comments

Chandigarh, December 30

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has slammed the Congress government over the hike in the electricity tariff, which, it said, was already on the higher side.

In a statement, MLAs Aman Arora and Meet Hayer have described the hike in the electricity tariff as “an anti-people measure” by the government, which would hit all sections of society. They said the government should mull an immediate rollback.

The AAP leaders said the government’s decision to increase the tariff by 36 paise per unit from January 1, was lopsided, which would leave every consumer in a fresh financial quandary.

The leaders, citing the example of the Kejriwal-led Delhi Government providing cheaper electricity to the people there, said the Punjab Government should replicate the Delhi model. They said if the government in Delhi could provide cheaper electricity to consumers, why couldn’t Punjab do the same?

The party would submit memorandums in every district through the respective DCs on Tuesday, seeking a rollback of the hike. — TNS
