Chandigarh, July 3

PCC president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring today alleged that the AAP government in Punjab was trying to hush up the Bargari sacrilege case.

“Handing over the report to religious leaders does not certify its sanctity or truthfulness. The fact is that you are trying to hush up the matter for reasons best known to you,” the PCC president told the CM, while referring to the SIT report on sacrilege.

“The AAP government has belied all expectations it had raised among people who voted it to power,” Warring said, warning the government against serious ramifications as the issue related to emotions and sentiments of millions of Sikhs.

Warring alleged the AAP government was following the script of the SAD government, which had also tried to hush up the matter. “The way the Akalis had handed over the case to the CBI, apparently to hush it up, as it failed to find anything and identify the culprits, same way the AAP has scripted a report that seeks to exonerate the real culprits,” he said.

Meanwhile,CLP leader Partap Singh Bajwa accused AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal of misleading people of Punjab on the issue of investigation into the sacrilege cases.

In a statement, Bajwa said as per the report, only dera chief Gurmeet Singh Ram Rahim and his followers were involved in the incidents.

“Before the Assembly elections in Punjab, Kejriwal had claimed that the Badals were involved in the incidents and would not be spared. This report is totally silent on their role,” said Bajwa.

He said, “The report is more critical of the CBI’s role than attempting to bring out the truth or refer to the destruction of evidence as was done by the Punjab Police. The police had for about two-three years investigated this case and failed to nab the actual culprits.”

“The initial years when the probe remained with the Punjab Police is relevant as the people had started sitting on dharna due to the unfair investigation,” he claimed, adding the report was silent on the role of the police.
