Chandigarh, July 15

Days after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government cancelled a textile park at the Mattewara forest in Ludhiana district, the Forest Department has announced that 80,000 saplings would be planted on the forestland.

Forest Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak announced this while presiding over a meeting of officers of his department in Mohali today.

“Under the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Haryaval Lehar scheme, 50,000 saplings will be planted in each Assembly segment. As for the Mattewara forest, 80,115 saplings will be planted there,” said the minister, adding the saplings should be planted near schools, hospitals and dispensaries.
