75% attendance must for medical college teachers

Like all MBBS students who have to maintain at least 75 per cent attendance to be eligible to appear in annual exams, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has now made it mandatory for all medical institutions that its faculty should have minimum 75 per cent attendance of the total working days.

The required number of faculty in the institutions should be full-time and will not engage in private practice during college hours.

In the guidelines, notifying the minimum set of requirements for a medical college to start postgraduate medical courses, the NMC said 80 per cent of the hospital beds should be occupied throughout the year by patients requiring in-patient care and minimum 15 per cent of the total beds in the department imparting post-graduate training should be Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds/High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds exclusively of that department.

Every medical college will have its own website which should contain the details of departments with available facilities, faculty with contact details, PG courses along with number of seats, details of the admitted students and details of the clinical workload (OPD, IPD and surgeries) for each department separately, notified the commission.

Every medical college will have prescribed number of cameras at the prescribed locations and there should be adequate space and sufficient number of examination cubicles available in the out-patient department and one teaching room for each teaching department with a capacity to accommodate adequate number of students for clinical case discussions/demonstrations. Each such room shall have audio-visual facilities, reads the notification.
