Chandigarh, December 24

A three-member committee, headed by Punjab Chief Vigilance Commissioner Justice Mehtab Gill, has recommended a panel of three IPS officers for appointment as the Chief Director, Vigilance Bureau (VB). Punjab’s officiating Director-General of Police Siddharth Chattopadhyaya is currently holding the charge of the post, which fell vacant after the then Chief Director BK Uppal, proceeded on leave amid reports of his replacement.

Information suggests the committee has recommended, in order of merit, the names of Ishwar Singh, Gurpreet Kaur Deo, and G Nageswara Rao. While both Ishwar Singh and Deo are 1993-batch officers, Rao belongs to the 1995 batch. Sources in the Punjab Civil Secretariat said the committee “carefully considered” the service record, the annual confidential reports and other factors related to all the officers in the rank of DGP and ADGP.

The three names were recommended after “careful consideration” and primarily taking into account the “integrity, conduct and experience” of the officers eligible for appointment. The meeting with regard to the Chief Director’s appointment was held under Justice Gill’s chairpersonship on December 20. The other committee members were state Chief Secretary Anirudh Tewari and Principal Secretary, Home, Anurag Verma.
