24 POs held in Moga land grab case

In an 11-year-old case of cheating and taking illegal possession of village common land, the Moga police claimed to have arrested 24 persons, who were declared proclaimed offenders (POs) by the court.

Moga SSP Vivek Sheel Soni said a special campaign against the POs had been initiated in the district and they nabbed 25 POs in total. He said 24 of these POs were involved in a land grabbing and cheating case.

This case dates back to January 2013, when a case was registered against 122 persons. The Panchayat Department had found that the accused had grabbed the village common land and constructed structures.

According to the Panchayat Department, 74 homeless people were allotted plots for free in Daroli Bhai village in 2012. As per rules, the allottees could not sell these plots. However, during verification, the department found that 26 beneficiaries had sold these plots.
