Abohar, January 15

Around two dozen crow carcasses were found at Dhinganwali village, 15 km from here, today. Some villagers spotted the dead birds and informed the authorities. Teams from the departments of Forests and Wildlife Preservation and Animal Husbandry swung into action and initiated probe.

Anita, Forests and Wildlife Range Officer, said she along with block officer Gurvinder Singh had visited the spot. Veterinary surgeons Dr Vishal Shekhawat and Dr Pratik Godara also inspected the site. The carcasses were scientifically buried in a pit. Anita said samples would be collected on Saturday as stool samples and pound water needed to be examined.

In a separate incident, two pigeons were found dead near the Abohar-Hanumangarh road. The dead birds were buried and the matter was being investigated.

Dr Amit Nain of the Animal Husbandry Department said different teams had been formed for collection of samples. Around five large poultry farms in the area had been issued guidelines.

He said the death of crows could be due to drinking poisonous water or cold. — OC
