Train cancelled, migrants protest

Fatehgarh Sahib: Hundreds of migrant workers from Bihar gathered at the grounds of Khalsa School, Mandi Gobindgarh, early Monday morning. However, they turned violent as they came to know that the Shramik train meant to ferry them home had been cancelled. They reportedly tried to block the GT Road but the timely intervention of Amloh SDM Anand Sagar Sharma and DSP Sukhwinder Singh saved the situation from taking an ugly turn. Later, in the evening, the migrants were taken to Ambala Cantt in nine buses to board a train to Bihar. They alleged that they were told that a Shramik train would leave from Mohali and they had gathered to be taken to Mohali via buses. They said on Friday also, approximately 400 migrants were taken to Mohali in buses. — OC
