Valsad, January 20

Hosts Gujarat secured a first innings lead of 75 runs against Punjab on Day 2 of their Group A Ranji Trophy tie. Punjab were all out for 229 in 68.2 overs with Anmol Malhotra hitting an unbeaten 119 runs and captain Mandeep Singh scoring 56 in reply to Gujarat’s total of 281 runs.

For Gujarat, left-arm medium-pacer Arzan Nagwaswalla took 5/64. At stumps, Gujarat were 23/0 in their second innings, with Samit Gohel (7) and Priyank Panchal (14) at the crease. The visitors paid the price of tinkering with their batting order on a seaming pitch as inexperienced batsmen were thrust up the order. Nagwaswalla moved the ball away from the left-handers and brought it in for the right-handers, leaving Punjab tottering at 32/5 at the end of the 13th over.

Tiwary hits maiden triple ton

Kalyani: Manoj Tiwary’s knock of 303 guided West Bengal to 635/7 against Hyderabad before reducing the visitors to 83/5 in their Group A tie at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground. Apart from Tiwary, Shreevats Goswami chipped in with 95 runs before the hosts rode on Akash Deep’s 3/46 to put Hyderabad on the back foot.
