Punjab boys emerge champions in basketball

Ludhiana, January 20

Punjab basketball players made the Punjab Basketball Association (PBA) proud as its boys’ team romped home champions while the girls’ team secured bronze medal in the U-21 category during the Khelo India Youth Games being held at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Guwahati, in Assam today.

In the boys’ final, Punjab outperformed Tamil Nadu 79-52 to lay their hands on winners’ trophy. The winners were leading 38-26 at the end of the second quarter while in the girls’ section, in the match to decide the third position, Punjab defeated Tamil Nadu 81-65 to clinch the bronze medal.

RS Gill and Teja Singh Dhaliwal, president and general secretary, respectively of the Punjab Basketball Association, besides its other office-bearers, including Yurinder Hayer, JP Singh, Suman Sharma, Balkar Singh Brar, Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar, Darshan Singh Sandhu, Vijay Chopra, congratulated the players and their coaches on bringing fame to the state and wished them more success in future competitions.
