Actor Dev Kharoud has carved a niche for himself as an action hero in Punjabi film industry. Having a theatre background, his choice of cinema has been different. Now, after a three-month-long break, thanks to the lockdown, he says he has improved as an actor since he used this time to watch films and series. He thinks one can learn a lot just by watching other actors’ work. Here’s a peek into his style game…

Define your swag...

Staying true to my roots, finding comfort and style in simplicity. I believe in desi living and that’s my swag.

Must-haves in your wardrobe?

Denims, formal shirts, tee-shirts and lowers.

A Punjabi celebrity that you find stylish?

I don’t like very colourful or loud things, that’s not my idea of fashion, so instead of a Punjabi celebrity, I would name a Bollywood actor. I think Hrithik Roshan is very stylish. He has class.

Your latest buy?

I recently ordered a pair of Asics shoes and bought around 10 T-shirts from Puma. I’ve also bought a Bullet some time weeks back and I’ve got it modified from Mumbai.

A person you want to have dinner date with?

That would be Kajol. I really admire her. She is very attractive. You’ll never see her tensed or frowning, that makes her even more special. Among the new actresses, I like Rakul Preet.

An exotic place where you want to hang out with your date?

A long drive in Surrey, Canada. It’s very beautiful there and the air is so clean and fresh. Perfect setting for a date.

The most bizarre look that you have seen so far?

Ranveer Singh beats everyone in this category. Some of his looks are beyond believable. He takes it too far sometimes.

What turns you off?

Buttering, leg pulling, liars, negative people, and backbiting.

Accessories that you can’t do without?

Watches, shoes, perfumes and belts. I love buying shoes. I have over 80 pairs but I keep distributing them to my cousins and friends. I somehow can’t resist when I see a nice pair.

Call for comfort?

Kurta Pyajama. It can be worn anywhere, at any occasion, or even as nightwear.

Your fitness includes what all?

Cardio and weight training. In the morning every day I do two hours of cardio in a ground and in the evening I do weight training at the gym at my place for two hours.

Any inclination towards sports?

I’ve always been a sports person. I still play cricket and volley ball. During my college days I was an athlete and I’ve played games at the national level.

Traditional attires that you love?

Kurta pyjama.

How do you unwind yourself?

I work six days a week and long to get six hours of sleep at night. I long for a Sunday so that I can go on a long drive, listen to some nice music, watch TV and sleep.

Your priced possession?

My cars. I am very fond of them. I have a modified jeeps. My BMW 3 Series is called Rocket and I have a Ford Endevour which is in matt finish. In fact, that’s my first car since I became an actor.

If not acting, then?

Cricket. I play very well. It was my passion at one point and I was sure I’d become a cricketer. I would play three matches a day, even go as far as 50 km to play a game. I’ve even played with Ranji players.

Street smart vs brand freak?

Street smart, any day! One should be a brand himself and not be conscious of what brand he is wearing. I think if you are fit, you can carry anything well and if you are not healthy, even a Rs 10,000 worth shirt won’t look good. I buy whatever I like, even if it is from a roadside shop, I don’t think twice.

You never leave home without?

Cell phone, car and wallet. I also have to always match my wrist watch. These days mask and sanitizer are two things without which I don’t leave home.

Current favourite attire is?

Jeans and shirts, current and always.

Your career goals

My goal is to do good films. I do not focus on becoming a star. The aim is that my work should speak about me. When I take retirement, people should remember my cinema, even 100 years after I am gone. I want to be remembered for my work.
