Patiala, December 13

In a big relief to students and teachers, primary schools which have a shortage of rooms can now conduct their classes in middle and high schools during winters. In fact, the State Education Department has, already, asked District Education Officers (DEOs) to utilise the surplus rooms of middle and high schools for primary schools, which lie within the same compound.

The department, in its communiqué, to the DEOs, said that primary schools facing the shortage of rooms, can conduct their classes in the vacant rooms of middle and high schools, if they are within the same boundary.

Director School Education has asked the DEOs to identify such school where the above said idea can be implemented at the earliest. The director said the DEOs had also been directed to adjust middle and higher secondary school students to primary school classrooms, if the former were facing a shortage.

It is pertinent to mention that many primary schools have already been declared ‘unsafe’ by the authority concerned forcing the students to study in open. One such school is Government Elementary School in Dhakansu Kalan, near Rajpura town, which has only two classrooms to adjust 180 students as three out of fives rooms were declared ‘unsafe’.
