Patiala, April 3

To stem the spread of the Covid-19, youngsters at Toderpur village in Samana block of the Patiala district have vowed to save residents, especially elders, from the deadly disease.

Youngsters have barricaded all three entrances of the village to prevent the entry of any outsider.

In a bid to stop any Covid carrier from spreading infection in the village, they are keeping a 24x7 vigil at the three nakas turn by turn.

Besides, youngsters, with the support of the village sarpanch, have been going door-to-door to create awareness about the disease.

Educated youth of the village, led by Kulbir and Hardeep Toderpur, have pasted posters on walls across the village to educate villagers about the disease.

Youngsters have also convinced farmers for limiting field activities to the minimum. A three-hour window, 7am to 10 am, has been allocated for farmers to fetch fodder for their livestock and do other essential work in fields. Besides, to prevent any congregation, all religious institutions at the village have also been closed.

Toderpur village sarpanch Nachattar Singh said public announcements were being made to follow all guidelines, including staying indoors. Social distancing was a mantra to stem the spread of the virus, he added.

Kulbir Toderpur, a member of Naujwan Bharat Sabha, said, “We as youngsters think that it is our moral responsibility to save our village from the virus. We are creating awareness in the village about the disease through announcements. We are manning nakas 24x7.”

It was an initiative of youngsters to save villagers from getting infected by the disease, said Nachattar.

“The panchayat is giving full support to these youngsters. We are doing our best to prevent the spread of the disease,” he added.
