Patiala, March 5

In a significant development for the city, the state budget today earmarked substantial funds to address its crucial infrastructure needs.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema revealed plans for construction of several key facilities aimed at enhancing healthcare, transport and promoting sports education in the region.

Major highlights of the budget were the provision of funds for construction of a burn unit, multi-story residences catering to senior, junior residents and other employees, as well as a state-of-the-art sports complex at Government Medical College, Patiala.

With a total investment of Rs 110 crore, these initiatives were poised to significantly improve healthcare facilities and promote a healthier lifestyle among residents.

In a bid to foster excellence in sports education, Cheema proposed an allocation of Rs 34 crore for Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University for the fiscal year 2024-25. This funding will support various programs in sport science, sports technology, sports management, coaching, and related fields, thereby nurturing talent and promoting sports culture across the region.

The finance minister expressed confidence that these initiatives would significantly contribute to the overall development and well-being of the people of Patiala. Besides, the public transport would get a flip as the government is planning to launch electric buses in the city.
