Rs 25-cr for development of Patiala dist

The state government has decided to allocate funds for various development works in Patiala in the Budget presented in the Assembly today.

The government will allocate Rs 25 crore to the Patiala Development Authority for the development of a heritage street in the city. On the lines of previously developed heritage street in Amritsar, the state government proposes to prepare one in Patiala around Qila Mubarak.

Rejuvenation of Badi and Chotti Nadi

The government will also provide funds for rejuvenation of Badi and Chotti Nadi in Patiala city.

Roads and bridges

The Chandigarh-Landran-Chunni-Sirhind-Patiala road will now be upgraded, along with other roads in the state. The government has approved 16 new works on national highways for Rs 436 crore.

Girls’ hostel at university

While the cash-strapped Punjabi University failed to attract a special grant from the government, the state government has nevertheless decided to give Rs 15 crore to the university for the construction of a girls’ hostel on the campus.

New universities

The state government said it would give requisite funds for setting it up of a university near the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) on Sidhuwal road. On the same lines, the government will also provide funds for recently announced Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University at Patiala.

Polytechnics

The government will allocate funds for upgrading the infrastructure of government polytechnics in various cities, including Patiala. The government has decided to allocate Rs 41 crore for the infrastructure of government polytechnics in Batala, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, GTB Garh (Moga) and Patiala.

Medical colleges

The medical colleges in three cities in the state — Amritsar, Faridkot and Patiala — will also be upgraded at a cost of Rs 224 crore. The government will, thus, provide funds for the Government Medical College, Patiala, on the Sangrur road here.
