Rajindra Gymkhana & Mahendra Club poll tomorrow

Members of north India’s prestigious Rajindra Gymkhana and Mahendra Club here will go to the polls on December 31. One group is being led by Gurmukh Singh Dhillon and the other by Vinod Dhundia for the post of president of the club.

The members said voting would be held from 10.30 am to 6 pm while the results would be declared on January 1. The club has 2,800 members.

Dhundia to upgrade sports facilities

If elected, we wish to make the swimming pool all-weather. We also aim to renovate the badminton hall and squash court, and establish a solar plant at the club. Upgrading all sports facilities and the kitchen by providing training to the workers is also one of our aims. — Vinod Dhundia

Dhillon promises election reforms

We will make it a rule that members elected once will not contest again for two years. Also, Rs1 lakh is currently the submission amount for contesting the elections, which will be reduced to Rs10,000. Gurmukh Singh Dhillon

Dhillon said if elected, his team would ensure that the club elections were held every year. “We will make it a rule that members elected once will not contest again for two years. Also, Rs 1 lakh is currently the submission amount for contesting the elections which will be reduced to Rs 10,000.” His team will also ensure that the annual general meeting is held where the members’ suggestions will be heard.

The Dhillon group’s panel comprises of Vikas Puri (vice-president), Dr Hardeep Singh Mann (honorary secretary), Swatantar Bansal (treasurer) and Suresh Kumar, Sanjay Dhawan, Baljeet Singh Joshan and Dhiraj Chalana, all executive members.

“We will ensure that every member gets the best of facilities all throughout the year,” said Dr Mann.

Dhundia, contesting for the post of president from the other group, said: “Our group has been functioning for the benefit of the club since 2013. If elected, we wish to make the swimming pool all-weather. We also aim to carry out renovation of the badminton hall, squash court, and establish a solar plant at the club. Upgrading all sports facilities and the kitchen by providing training to the workers is also one of our aims for the club.”

MM Sayal from the group is contesting for the post of vice-president, Amarinder Pabla for honorary secretary, Subhash Gupta for treasurer and Dr Sanjay Bansal, Dr Harsimran Singh, Sumesh Jain and Sanchit Bansal for the posts of executive member.
