Patiala, July 31

Punjabi University, Patiala, has decided to stop admissions to various courses being run at the Centre for Advanced Media Studies (CAMS) on the campus. The decision was taken at a meeting held on July 7 due to overlapping of courses and shortage of faculty at the departments. University officials said such overlapping courses at other departments would also be shut or merged as per the requirement of the university.

The university has decided to stop all admissions to courses being run at the CAMS from the upcoming 2022-23 academic session. Officials said the three-year BA (journalism, mass communication and media technology) course will now be run at the department of journalism and mass communication. Similarly, the five-year MA (honours) TV and film production course has been coined with the MD-FIP in performing and visual arts with majors in theatre and film studies. It will be run by the faculty of CAMS and the department of theatre and television.

Officials on the campus said the university had been facing shortage of faculty for a long time. “At the same time, similar courses related to journalism were being run at two different departments. As of now, the new admissions to these courses have been put on halt. Similar decisions will be taken in regard to other courses in future as per need of the university”, they said.
