Patiala, July 18

Teaching staff of Punjabi University started a protest over non-payment of salaries outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office here today.

The faculty members said the university was yet to release their salaries for the months of May and June.

The faculty members, who assembled outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office, said they were still awaiting salaries of the months of May and June.

“It has been two months and 18 days since we received our salaries. Even the deductions from our salaries are not being deposited to the respective accounts,” said Sukhjinder Singh Buttar, secretary, PUTA.

The teaching staff alleged that the university was adopting the policy of ‘divide and rule’.

“They released the salaries of non-teaching B and C category employees on Friday, but did not release those of A-class non-teaching officials and all faculty members,” they said.

The faculty members, who held the protest for two hours, said they would continue such protests in the future.
