Punjabi University guest faculty begin hunger strike

Patiala, June 23

Guest faculty at Punjabi University, Patiala, today started a hunger strike over their demand for “increase in payment according to working days”. The lecture-based teachers have been protesting for the last nine days.

The lecture-based faculty of constituent colleges have held a number of meetings with the university administration but failed to reach an agreement. They said, “We have been protesting for increase in our payment according to the working days.”

The guest faculty said two of its members—Manvinder Kaur of University College, Ghudda, and Charanjit Kaur of University College, Bahadarpur— today began a 24-hour hunger strike and said such protests would continue till the issue was not resolved.
