Patiala villagers self-isolate

To ensure safety of all, residents of many villages and colonies across the district have completely sealed entry and exit points of their localities to avoid contact with outsiders over the threat of spreading Covid-19.

One example is of Sukhewal village, 10 km from Nabha city, on the Malerkotla road. “The village has a population of 620 people,” said sarpanch Chanpreet Kaur. Her husband Dharminder Singh said, “All residents of the village are part of the endeavour. We have taken a collective decision to seal all entry and exit points of the village. No one is allowed to go out of the village.”

“A few people, who leave the village for necessary works, are also staying separately and do not come into contact with the rest of villagers,” he added.

“Many people of nearby villages passed through our village while commuting as it is near highway. Sealing has ensured they do not come into contact with village residents. We have also ensured that elders stay indoors,” said villagers.

“A special isolation facility has been set up outside Sukhewal village where a doctor is also available. We have sprayed sanitiser in the whole village. Daily wagers are provided grocery and vegetables every week,” added villagers.

Residents of Trein village of Samana block have also sealed boundaries of their area to ensure safety of all. Jatinder Singh Mattu, a resident of Trein village, said, “The decision to seal village entry and exit points has been taken after making residents aware of the threat posed by Covid-19.”

On the same lines, there is complete lockdown at a colony near Nabha Gate in Patiala. A guard sits outside the colony gate to ensure that no one enters the colony premises.

1,038 villages disinfected in Patiala district

Patiala: Sodium hypochloride disinfectant was sprayed in as many as 1,038 villages of the nine blocks of the Patiala district, said officials of the district administration. Nearly 16,000 litre of antibiotic solution was sprayed in villages to ensure safety of all residents, officials added. The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Development, Preeti Yadav, said, “The administration will spray antibiotic in stages to ensure that all villages are disinfected.” “Sarpanches of villages have also been given Rs 5,000 each for providing commodities of basic necessity and medicines to the poor,” the ADC added.
