Patiala, June 8

Teacher unions ‘gheraoed’ the office of the District Education Officer (DEO) today following frequent deputation of a schoolteacher.

Protesters raised slogans and demanded revocation of the deputation orders. They staged a sit-in for hours alleging that deputations were being done under political influence. DEO was acting on the behest of a sarpanch of Bolar Kalan village where the said teacher, alleged protesters.

Vikram Dev, union leader, said, “Bhupinder Singh is time and again sent on deputation on false complaints by the village sarpanch.”

Bhupinder Singh, a social science teacher, was first sent on deputation to a school in Kularan village in Samana block. Thereafter, he was again sent on deputation to Peepal Kheri village until March 31. Ironically, when Bhupinder went to join his parent school – Government High School in Bolar Kalan – his place of original posting, he was once again deputed back to Peepal Kheri.

Hardeep Toderpur, president, SSA/RMSA Teacher Union, said, “Political interference should stop immediately as it de-motivates teacher.”

DEO Harinder Kaur said, “I have informed higher-ups about development. Consequently, they have formed a three-member committee to look into the whole matter.” — TNS
