Patiala, June 21

The local Municipal Corporation has started activities to strictly implement the ban on single-use plastic.

The civic body will now ensure there is no manufacturing, stocking, distribution, recycling, sale and use of plastic carry bags, polythene bags, plastic pipes and other single-use plastic items.

Considering the high littering potential and low utility of single-use plastic items, their manufacturing, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use is prohibited. Among such items are ear buds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks etc. During a meeting with inspectors, councillors and others in connection with the enforcement of the ban today, Mayor Sanjeev Sharma and Commissioner Aaditya Uppal said people should be made aware and encouraged to use alternatives to single-use plastic items.
