Patiala, January 21

An incomplete structure (public toilet) has become a safe place for drug addicts The Patiala Municipal Corpopration (MC) had started construction of the toilet on a footpath in December 2018.

Later, the civic body left the work midway as objections poured in from various sections of society and already functional public toilet behind the Beant Singh Complex.

Instead of demolishing the structure, the MC’s officials decided to cover up their act and turned it into a bus stop. Ironically, no bus runs on this route.

Now, empty bottles of liquor can be seen lying at the spot and stench eminates from the structure.

A vendor said, “Rubble and construction material is lying here from the past year. It seems that the MC is waiting for a mishap to take place.”

Poonamdeep Kaur, Commissioner, Patiala MC, said, “We have identified a spot at a park at Chhoti Baradari to construct a public toilet. Construction material lying at the old site will be removed soon.”
